Elections and Parcel Taxes

In these economically uncertain times, school districts are turning more and more often to the parcel tax process as a means of supplementing revenue to cover drastic State funding shortfalls.  We can provide A to Z support for the parcel tax process, including resolutions, ballot measures, Governing Board meetings, the public hearing process, and interacting with tax measure consultants and local elections officials.

What can Board Members say about an election?  Can people come on to school property to hand out leaflets?  Would it be OK for the PTA to distribute pro bond measure materials in student backpacks?  What happens if the FPPC comes calling?  We can answer these questions, and more, with respect to the parcel tax, Governing Board, and bond election processes.

We can help with the often uncertain issues pertaining to the school district election process, such as which voters lie within District boundaries, when the law permits a school district to conduct an election, and issues pertaining to elections costs and school districts in more than one county.  We also help school districts interact with local elections officials, County Offices of Education, and County Counsel regarding elections issues.
